Even though the Virgin Blue morning flight from Hobart to Melbourne was one hour late, due to “engineering reasons”, we were still in time for the connecting flight to Perth, Western Australia. We were excited to go there. Not only because we wanted to see what this booming city on the West coast is all about but also because we would be meeting Miek’s parents there. The first familiar faces to see in about 80 days… Somehow it’s always a bit strange, but fun, to see friends or family abroad, especially now that it’s “down under”. And so it was this time as well.. We will be traveling through South Western Australia together which should be a lot of fun. We started off by touring Perth itself, visiting the fantastic Aquarium, some of its splendid beaches and the famous and lovely town of Fremantle. Today we drove south along the West coast towards the Margaret River Wine Region. We’re having a very big car for the four of us (a luxurious Toyota Aurion) but somehow some of us had doubts about its size (the biggest car Hertz could give us) and our ability to make the luggage fit in the trunk. It only took a little violence and a little bloodshed but we managed to squeeze it all in.. 
Along the way we stopped at Busselton to see and walk the largest (yes, here we go again) jetty in the Southern hemisphere. It’s 1841 meters in length so it’s perfect for a late afternoon walk under a perfectly blue sky.
De Virgin Blue ochtend vlucht van Hobart naar Melbourne was een uur te laat vanwege “engineering zaken” maar we waren toch nog op tijd voor onze aansluitende vlucht naar Perth in West Australië. Het was spannend om daar heen te gaan. Niet alleen omdat we graag eens wilden zien hoe het er in deze ‘booming’ stad aan de westkust aan toe gaat maar ook omdat we Miek d’r ouders daar zouden ontmoeten. De eerste bekende gezichten in zo’n 80 dagen.. Op de een of andere manier is het altijd vreemd maar wel erg leuk om vrienden of familie zo ver weg van huis te treffen, vooral nu het helemaal ‘down under’ is. En zo voelde het nu dus ook.. We reizen deze week samen door het zuidwesten en dat zal ongetwijfeld erg leuk zijn. We zijn begonnen in Perth zelf, hebben het prachtige Aquarium, een paar geweldige stranden in de buurt en het bekende en erg schattige stadje Fremantle bezocht. Vandaag zijn we langs de westkust naar het zuiden afgezakt, richting het Margaret River wijngebied. We hebben nu een erg grote auto voor ons viertjes tot onze beschikking (een luxueuze Toyota Aurion) maar op de een of ander manier had iemand van ons toch wel erge twijfels over of al onze bagage wel in de achterbak van deze auto (de grootste die Hertz ons mee kon geven) zou passen. Er kwam wat geweld en wat bloedvergieten aan te pas maar het is ons toch gelukt het er allemaal in te persen.. Onderweg zijn we o.a. gestopt in Busselton om de langste (ja, daar gaan we weer) aanlegsteiger op het zuidelijk halfrond te zien en belopen. Hij is 1841 meter lang dus perfect voor een wandeling in de namiddag onder een perfect blauwe hemel.
